Season:

A son of a former basketball player Ivo Nakic. Mario is 6’7” primarly SF who has very high potential. Versatile in offense, has ability to score in many ways. Good driver to the hoop, specially when going right side. Solid perimeter shooter, had problems with 3pt shot at some games, but it is not a major issue. Smooth shot with good rhytm. Keeps his teammates involved in the game due to good court vision he has. Runs transition very well both with and without the ball. Very skilled ball handler. Body has to be improved, and there is a lot of room for it. He will grow up more, most likely. Could be better defender, doesn’t show wish to play it at this level. Top level prospect. Had a debut for Real Madrid in Liga Endesa already.

Strengths

  • size and length
  • good athleticism
  • natural scorer
  • good court vision
  • transition game

Weaknesses

  • Thin frame, body could be stronger
  • Has to be involved more in defense
  • Has room to improve 3p shot

Serbian players on ANGT Munich 2019:

6’7 guard from Real Madrid was one of the best players during whole ANGT in Munich and helped his team to win the tournament. Nakic averaged 14 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Was 7th in overall efficiency, 9th best tournament scorer. Last year’s ANGT Munich MVP obviously improved his physical tools and strength. Stands contact without problems. His size and good enough level of ball handling skills enables him to grab rebound and finish coast to coast. Adapts body excellent in transition, and when finishing in the traffic. Sure with the ball in his hands, very good finisher around the rim. Had extremely high percent of mid range shots made. Also great 3-pt shooter, but struggled with 3-pt in finals (1/8). Versatile shooter with high release can score from step back, off the dribble, off the catch, but also over defender. Good passing ability. Had only 2.5 assists per game, but showed great feeling to drop the dime and find an open teammate. Uses his size well in defense, can cover multiple positions and different parts of the court. Has quick hand and really good footwork. Still has room to work on PG skills and ball handling. One of the best prospects coming off this tournament.

ANGT Final8 2018 recap:

Nakić had great tournament in past days, proving himself as a #1 prospect in his generation. Playing with a year older players mainly, Mario managed to average 17.3ppg, 4rpg and 2.7spg which was tournament’s best. Skilled SF/SG has showed once again that he is a natural scorer. Uses his enormous talent and feeling for the game in the best possible way. Improved his shot generally, specially his 3pt shot comparing to Munich ANGT. Very shifty player, can change direction and the pace regularly, even though he is not the fastest player on the court. Mario can find the way to the hoop in almost every situation. Showed sights of post game, scoring couple of buckets around the rim. Decent spot up shooter from perimeter. Could be better ball handler, ball control is not on the top level. Still doesn’t have big wish to play defense, which is his main issue, regardless he was tournament top stealer.
